This is our awesome 5 week beginners class and the start of our core curriculum, delivered as an online Zoom meeting with one of our senior teachers and a small group of other beginner students. There’s no better way to learn improvisation online.
Improvisation 101 Online is unique to AOI, and is a full online version of our face to face class – not a temporary “sample the foundations” during COVID-19 fill in class you might expect to see elsewhere. No other school simplifies improvisation online or face to face for newcomers like we do. Which is not surprising when our principal literally wrote the book on how improvisation works.
We introduce improvisation, confidence skills, storytelling and comedy, presentation skills and the beginnings of improv, in a fun, stress free and practical, 5 week online class. Completely designed for first timers, young and old, from the quiet ones to the more confident. (no experienced improvisors are allowed! no “natural talent” required!)
You’ll learn how improvisation and spontaneity works and uncover skills you didn’t know you had. You’ll learn how to be more confident, have more fun, be better able to adapt to changing environments and situations, be a better listener and communicator, and to be positive and productive with the unknown. You’ll remember how fun it was to be a child, taking away games and techniques which will improve the confidence and ability of your children, family and friends.
While this is an online class, it also has an active component, and you’ll be on your feet from time to time, playing games and fun exercises which highlight the practical uses of improvisation in your life, work and play.
Weekly lessons are similar to an online language or pottery class — each week we build on what you did the previous week, but there’s no homework or other out of class requirements, just turn up to each lesson and have fun. You can repeat it as many times as you wish, and there’s no pressure to step up to our more advanced classes in theatrical improv and improv comedy.
You must be able to speak and understand conversational English as a primary language.
